<<< CRUSAP Report >>>

In May 2005, a Task Force was assigned to work on the Critical Review of the U.S. Actuarial Profession (known as CRUSAP). The task force conducted a critical analysis of the American actuarial profession, using enterprise risk management and management consulting techniques. It issued a draft report in September 2006 and invited comments, then published its final report in December 2006.

The final CRUSAP report is now available.

A guest editorial.

The road to retirement is sometimes a challenge to navigate. This generation seems to be subject to more than its fair share of those challenges. The generation to follow will have it tougher still.

Never in the history of our country have our skills and our experience as professional actuaries, our foresight and patience, and yes, our compassion, been needed more.

Defined benefit plans are facing unprecedented pressure from many different directions. Many are severely underfunded.

Do you believe, as I do, that a private pension system devoid of defined benefit plans is a private pension system destined to serve the long term needs of its retirement population poorly?

If so, then you agree with me that the need for our input is the greatest that it has been in our country's history.
